The back seat of your mini-van is no longer the only place where you’ll be able to hear high pitched squeals for just one more song off of Brighten the Corners. Pavement is reuniting for a slew of shows this year, including a return to Atlanta, after more than a ten year touring hiatus:

Representin’ the west side of midtown Atlanta, WestFest 2009 kicks off Saturday, September 26th:

The festival was originally scheduled for Saturday, September 19th, but moved to next weekend due to an unusually rain-filled weather forecast, giving us all plenty of time to practice our Westside faux gang signs and for me to figure out how I’ve managed to live on this side of 75/85 interstate connector for so long never having heard of this celebration.

Vendors attending WestFest include: 6 Feet Under, Sweetwater Brewing Company, Octane Coffee Bar and Lounge, and Sublime Donuts. Atlanta Brewing Company will also be there, along with Hop City, who will be educating denizens on the fine art of home brewing.

Entertainment will be provided the lovely people of Relapse Theatre, who will be showcasing their improv and comedy skills from 1pm-3:30pm. The early evening will then bring performances from local musicians, including Shanghai Gesture.

On top of all this, there will be free on-site parking, children’s activities all day long, and $4 beers!

The first (hopefully) annual East Atlanta Record Show premiers at the Earl on Sunday, August 16th at 12:30 pm. DJs will be spinning gospel 45s from 1pm-4pm while the record swap takes place in the back room. This event appears to be all ages, and admission is only $2 or even free with any food purchase.
